Pipework & Hose Inspections

PSSR examinations for pressurised pipework systems, flexible hoses, fittings and expansion joints.

LDN Inspection Services provides statutory PSSR examinations for pressurised pipework, flexible hoses and associated fittings. Our qualified pressure systems engineers examine steam, compressed air, process gas and hydraulic pipework systems, delivering clear digital reports with photographic evidence.

Pipework & Hose PSSR Examinations

Pressurised pipework is a fundamental component of most pressure systems and is covered by the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR). Pipework carrying steam, compressed air, process gases, or hydraulic fluid at above atmospheric pressure must be included in the written scheme of examination and examined at the intervals specified by a competent person.

Pipework systems are subject to corrosion, erosion, fatigue, vibration and thermal cycling over their operational life. Hidden deterioration, particularly corrosion under insulation, is a significant concern that can lead to sudden failure and uncontrolled release of pressurised fluid. Flexible hoses degrade over time and have a finite service life.

Our examinations cover the full pipework system including pipe runs, flanged and welded joints, flexible hoses, expansion joints, pipe supports, and insulation condition. We identify areas of concern and provide practical recommendations for maintenance, repair or replacement.

Key Requirements

  • Pressurised pipework must be included in the written scheme of examination
  • Regular examination by a competent person at specified intervals
  • Flexible hoses must be assessed for condition, age and suitability
  • Corrosion under insulation must be assessed where applicable
  • Defects must be reported and acted upon without delay

Equipment We Inspect

Our pressure systems engineers examine all types of pressurised pipework and hose assemblies, including:

Steam pipework systems
Compressed air pipework
Process gas pipework
Hydraulic pipework
Flexible hoses and assemblies
Expansion joints and bellows
Flanged connections
Welded pipe joints
Pipe supports and hangers
Insulated pipework
Underground pressurised pipework
Header and distribution pipework

What We Check

Pipework & Joints

  • External pipe condition, corrosion and wall thickness
  • Flanged joint integrity, gaskets and bolt condition
  • Weld seam condition and any visible cracking
  • Pipe supports, hangers and anchor points
  • Insulation condition and signs of corrosion under insulation

Hoses & Expansion Joints

  • Flexible hose condition, age and pressure rating
  • Hose end fittings and crimps for damage or corrosion
  • Expansion joint and bellows condition and movement
  • Hose routing, support and protection from damage
  • Compliance with hose replacement schedules and standards

Our Inspection Process

A systematic approach to pipework and hose examination ensuring safety and PSSR compliance

1

Pre-inspection review of written scheme, pipework drawings and maintenance records

2

Visual examination of pipe runs, supports, insulation and accessible joints

3

Assessment of flexible hoses for age, condition, pressure rating and suitability

4

Examination of expansion joints, bellows and compensators for wear and damage

5

Thickness testing and corrosion assessment at critical points where required

6

Digital report with photographs, defect grading, pipework diagrams and recommendations
