PUWER Inspections – Workplace Machinery
Safety inspections for work equipment under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).
LDN Inspection Services provides comprehensive PUWER inspections for a wide range of non-lifting work equipment. Our qualified engineer surveyors ensure your workplace machinery, access equipment, and installations are safe to use and legally compliant.
What Is PUWER?
PUWER stands for the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. These UK regulations apply to most work equipment used by employees at work, covering everything from simple hand tools to complex machinery and installations.
Under PUWER, employers and duty holders must ensure that work equipment is suitable for its intended use, safe to operate, properly maintained, and inspected by a competent person where necessary. The regulations place clear responsibilities on those who provide, control, or manage work equipment.
PUWER applies to a vast range of equipment used in the workplace. While LOLER specifically covers lifting operations, PUWER covers all other work equipment, from ladders and roller shutters to gym equipment and playground installations.

Work Equipment We Inspect Under PUWER
We carry out PUWER inspections on a wide range of workplace equipment, including:
Why PUWER Inspections Are Important
Preventing accidents and injuries: Regular PUWER inspections identify defects, wear, and potential hazards before they cause harm to employees, contractors, or visitors. Faulty equipment is one of the leading causes of workplace accidents.
Supporting legal compliance: PUWER is enforced by the HSE and local authorities. Failing to inspect work equipment can result in enforcement notices, prosecution, and significant fines. Our inspections provide documented evidence of compliance.
Providing assurance: PUWER inspections give peace of mind to management, staff, and insurers that equipment is safe to use. They demonstrate due diligence and a commitment to workplace safety, which can also support insurance claims and reduce premiums.
