Forklift Inspections
LOLER thorough examinations for counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, pallet trucks, telehandlers and all forklift types.
LDN Inspection Services provides statutory forklift thorough examinations carried out by qualified engineer surveyors. We inspect all forklift types and attachments, delivering clear digital reports with photographic evidence and automated due-date reminders.
Forklift Thorough Examinations
Forklift trucks are classified as lifting equipment under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER). As such, they must undergo regular thorough examinations by a competent person to ensure they are safe to operate.
A thorough examination is not the same as a routine service. It is a detailed statutory inspection that assesses the structural integrity of the mast, carriage and forks, the hydraulic system, braking and steering, safety devices, and the overall condition of the machine.
Employers and duty holders are legally responsible for ensuring their forklift fleet is examined at the correct intervals and that any defects found are promptly rectified. Failure to comply with LOLER can result in HSE enforcement action, fines, and increased liability.
Key Requirements
- Thorough examination at least every 12 months (6 months if lifting people)
- Examination before first use and after significant repairs
- Attachments must also be examined (jibs, clamps, cages)
- Reports must be kept and defects acted upon promptly
- Dangerous defects require immediate removal from service
