Machinery Safety Risk Assessment

Independent, PUWER-aligned machinery risk assessments and competent sign-off.

LDN Inspection Services carries out rigorous machinery safety risk assessments for manufacturers, operators and duty holders. We evaluate design, guarding, control systems and UKCA / CE marking to help you meet the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations and reduce risk to people, productivity and reputation.

What Is a Machinery Safety Risk Assessment?

PUWER — the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations — requires users of work equipment to carry out regular, documented risk assessments. Those assessments must address each of the regulations under PUWER and demonstrate that the equipment is suitable for its intended task and can be used without putting people at risk.

Our engineers carry out thorough assessments focusing on the safety-critical components and features that affect whether equipment can be operated safely. We review the design and installation of the equipment and flag any issues that compromise compliance — for example a non-compliant safety-related control circuit, inadequate guarding, or a machine that requires UKCA / CE marking.

If you are an employer or self-employed person and you provide equipment for use at work, or if you have control of the use of equipment, PUWER will generally apply to you.

When You Need an Assessment

  • New, modified, imported or second-hand machinery
  • After safety upgrades, retrofits or relocation
  • Following an incident, near miss or HSE intervention
  • When insurers, brokers or auditors require evidence
  • Periodic review of legacy plant against current standards

How We Help

A three-part service covering assessment, verification and investigation — delivered by competent, independent engineers.

Comprehensive Machinery Assessments

Thorough PUWER-aligned risk assessments of safety-critical components, guarding, interlocks, emergency stops and safe operating procedures, with clear priorities and remedial actions.

Competent Sign-Off After Upgrades

Independent verification following safety upgrades completed by OEMs, third-party contractors or your own engineering team. Documented certification of physical compliance with PUWER.

Incident Investigation

Impartial, third-party root-cause investigations with practical corrective measures. We attend meetings and correspond with enforcement authorities on your behalf.

What We Assess

Every assessment is tailored to the machine, its use, and the environment in which it operates.

Safety-critical components and condition
Fixed and movable guarding adequacy
Safety-related control circuits and interlocks
Emergency stops, isolation and lockout
Design, installation and ergonomic risks
UKCA / CE marking and conformity review
Residual risk identification and ranking
Operator information, warnings and signage

Our Assessment Process

A structured, transparent workflow so you always know what to expect and what is required of your team.

1

Pre-visit scoping: asset list, drawings, manuals and prior assessments

2

On-site walk-through and machine-by-machine evaluation

3

Hazard identification using recognised methodology (ISO 12100 / BS EN)

4

Risk ranking and comparison against PUWER / machinery directive

5
