Air Receiver Inspections
PSSR examinations for vertical and horizontal air receivers, compressed air storage vessels and aftercooler receivers.
LDN Inspection Services provides statutory PSSR examinations for air receivers and compressed air storage vessels used across manufacturing, workshop and commercial environments. Our qualified pressure systems engineers carry out thorough internal and external examinations, delivering clear digital reports and written schemes of examination.
Air Receiver PSSR Examinations
Air receivers are pressure vessels that store compressed air and fall under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR). They are found in virtually every workshop, factory and commercial premises that uses compressed air. Under PSSR, duty holders must ensure that air receivers are properly examined by a competent person at the intervals specified in a written scheme.
Air receivers are susceptible to internal corrosion caused by moisture in the compressed air, particularly where condensate is not drained regularly. Over time, this corrosion can weaken the vessel walls and create a risk of catastrophic failure. External corrosion around supports, saddles and floor-level contact points is also common.
Our PSSR examinations cover the complete air receiver system including the vessel shell, safety valves, pressure gauges, drain valves, pipework connections and associated protective devices. We carry out both internal and external examinations as required by the written scheme.
Key Requirements
- A written scheme of examination prepared by a competent person
- Thorough examination at intervals specified in the scheme
- Safety valves must be tested and function at correct set pressure
- Data plate must be legible with correct vessel details
- Defects must be reported and acted upon within specified timescales
Equipment We Inspect
Our pressure systems engineers examine all types of air receivers and compressed air storage vessels, including:
What We Check
Vessel & Structure
- Shell condition, wall thickness and weld integrity
- Internal corrosion, pitting and erosion
- External corrosion around supports and saddles
- Drain valve condition and operation
- Data plate legibility and vessel markings
Safety & Protective Devices
- Safety valve operation and set pressure verification
- Pressure gauge accuracy and condition
- Pipework connections and fittings
- Isolation valve condition
- Foundation and support integrity
Our Inspection Process
A systematic approach to air receiver examination ensuring safety and PSSR compliance
