Lifting Accessories Thorough Examinations
Lifting accessories -- including slings, chains, shackles, hooks, and eyebolts -- are critical components in any lifting operation. Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), all lifting accessories must be thoroughly examined by a competent person at appropriate intervals.
These items are subject to significant wear and damage during normal use. Overloading, impact, abrasion, corrosion, and UV degradation can all reduce the safe working load and integrity of lifting accessories, making regular examination essential.
Our inspections include visual examination, measurement checks, verification of identification markings, and assessment against manufacturer specifications and safe working loads.
Key Requirements
- Thorough examination typically every 6 months
- Must be examined before first use
- Each item must be uniquely identified and traceable
